Samsung announced that Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has validated Samsung's 14-nanometer (nm) 16Gb low-power double data rate 5X (LPDDR5X) DRAM for use in Qualcomm Technologies' Snapdragon® mobile platform.

Since developing Samsung's first 14nm-based LPDDR5X DRAM last November, Samsung has worked closely with Qualcomm Technologies to optimize the 7.5 gigabits per second (Gbps) LPDDR5X for the Snapdragon mobile platform. LPDDR5X is about 1.2 times faster than LPDDR5 (6.4Gbps) on current high-end smartphones, and is expected to improve ultra-high-resolution video recording performance and artificial intelligence functions such as speech recognition, image recognition, and natural language processing on next-generation smartphones. In addition, through the use of advanced circuit design and dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (Dynamic voltage and frequency scaling, DVFS), the power consumption of LPDDR5X can be reduced by about 20%.

Jinman Han, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Memory Sales and Marketing, Samsung Semiconductor

"Successful validation of the LPDDR5X solution on Qualcomm Technologies' Snapdragon mobile platform is a testament to our advanced position in DRAM technology," he said. "We expect applications of this high-performance, low-power memory to expand from smartphones. to data centers, PCs, and automobiles, enabling more and more devices and systems to operate more efficiently.”

"Qualcomm Technologies is an industry expert in enabling and adopting the latest LPDDR DRAM specifications. With LPDDR5X on the Snapdragon platform, users are using mobile gaming, cameras, During the application process, you can experience new features and improved performance through the latest AI engine combined with various Qualcomm technologies, further enhancing the mobile experience. "

To better meet the growing demand for high-end DRAM solutions, Samsung will continue to pursue the development of low-power DRAM products that provide higher performance and larger capacity to support the continuously updated next-generation systems.
